PHILADELPHIA – La Salle women's basketball (0-8) returns to Tom Gola Arena after back-to-back road games to take on Norfolk State (3-4). Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. with the game airing on ESPN+. The Explorers will recognize their alumni in attendance during the game, followed by the annual alumni showdown.
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
- La Salle enters play with an 0-8 record on the season, most recently falling to Penn, 65-34. In the game, sophomore Deja King led the team with 13 points. Collectively, the team scored a season high seven three pointers, with King hitting three.
- For the second straight game, the Explorers finished with a positive turnover margin.
- Against #9/9 Oregon State La Salle finished +9 and against the Quakers, the team finished at +6.
- After her 13-point performance, King leads the team in scoring on the season with 7.5 points per game, while rookie Janay Sanders is second with 7.0 points per outing.
- Junior Shalina Miller is pacing the squad in rebounds with 5.6 boards per contest.
- In its eight games, La Salle has had five different starting lineups.
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS:
- Norfolk State is 3-4 on the season, coming off of a win over Liberty, 66-53, this past Sunday as part of the Christmas City Classic at Lehigh.
- Collectively, the team is averaging 58.4 points per contest, while holding opponents to an average of 57.
- Pacing the team in scoring are La'Deja James (12.1) and Raven Russell (11.7), with both shooting above 42% from the floor. Both James and Russell have scored in double figures in each of the last six games.
- On the boards, James also leads the team with 5.7 rebounds per game as the team is outrebounding its opposition by 3.6 rebounds on average.
- Throughout their first seven games, the Spartans are outscoring opponents 229-198 in the middle quarters of games, however they are being outscored in the opening and closing frames, 201-180.
THE SERIES:
The Explorers and Spartans have only met once in the all-time series with La Salle holding a 1-0 lead. Back on December 29, 2015, La Salle took down Norfolk State, 67-59, in a neutral site contest at Monmouth.
