MIAMISBURG, Ohio - Despite winning the doubles point and a pair of singles matches, the La Salle University men's tennis team was edged by Wright State, 4-3, on Monday afternoon.
The match began on a positive note for the Explorers, as the duo of senior
Tomas Christian and junior
Francesco Mowrey was triumphant at the top doubles spot, 6-3. At the No. 3 position, freshman
Colin Lucius and sophomore
Patrick Pascual earned a break late to win, 7-5, and secure the team point.
With a 1-0 lead heading into singles action, La Salle suffered straight-set losses at the top four singles spots but did win at No. 5 and No. 6. Pascual fought back from a 6-3 loss in the first to win the second, 7-5, and a third-set tiebreak, 10-7, at the No. 5 position.
At No. 6, Lucius dropped a first-set tiebreak and was on serve in the second set before his opponent, Donovan, Dellupica, was forced to retire.
La Salle returns to Atlantic 10 action on Tuesday, March 13 for a matchup with St. Bonaventure.
