ORLANDO, Fla. - The La Salle University men's tennis team is seeded 12th and will take on the fifth-seeded Richmond Spiders in the opening round of the 2018 Atlantic 10 Championships, set to begin on Thursday, April 26 in Orlando, Fla.
The four-day tournament will take place at the United States Tennis Association's National Campus, with all matches available via live stream. The first three rounds will be streamed through theÂ
USTA website's Playsight system, which allows viewers to select the court they wish to watch. The finals will be shown on the Atlantic 10 Digital Network.
La Salle enters having improved on last season's win total. The Explorers picked up a 5-2 win over St. Bonaventure in March, marking their first A-10 victory since 2011.
Individually, junior
Francesco Mowrey has posted a team-best 10 victories in singles action, all of which have come at the No. 1 position. Senior
Tomas Christian, sophomore
Patrick Pascual, and freshmen
Rogelio Gonzalez,
Connor Merrill and
Colin Lucius are expected to round out the singles lineup.
The Explorers will battle a Richmond team that enters with a 12-10 dual match record, including a 4-3 mark in A-10 play. Last season, the Spiders advanced all the way to the A-10 finals before falling in a narrow 4-3 decision to VCU. Senior Caleb Troy was named Second Team All-Atlantic 10 last season and is the top returner for first-year head coach Houston Barrick.
