ORLANDO, Fla. - Fourth-seeded Duquesne defeated No. 13 La Salle, 4-0, in the opening round of the Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Championships at the United States Tennis Association's National Campus on Wednesday. The loss ends the season for the Explorers, who won more dual matches in 2017-18 than in the last four seasons combined.
The Dukes earned the doubles point as Kylie Isaacs and Julianne Herman defeated sophomores
Tiffany Theophil and
Ali Snyder, 6-1. The Duquesne duo of Laurel Shymansky and Maranda Sears beat seniors
Alexandra Santarelli and
Jayla Smith, 6-4, at the No. 3 spot to secure the doubles victory.
Duquesne went on to win three singles matches in straight sets, advancing to the second round where the team will face No. 5 Richmond on Friday. Senior
Jade Smith was giving her opponent at No. 4 singles all she could handle prior to the match being halted, trailing 6-5 while on serve in the first set.
