Women’s Basketball Heads Downtown for Midday Battle at Drexel

PHILADELPHIA – After a 10-day break for final exams, the La Salle women's basketball team (6-4) will return to the floor for a midday game Tuesday against city-foe, Drexel (5-4). Tipoff is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. as it's the Dragons' Annual School Day. The game can be viewed for free through the Drexel Athletics website, or on NBCSN+ and FloSports with a subscription.
 
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
  • This season, the Explorers are set to play in three Kids/School games. Tuesday's game at Drexel marks the first with the others being at Richmond (1/23) and vs. Davidson (2/26). Since the 2011-12 season, La Salle is 9-1 in such games, including 7-1 at home and 2-0 on the road.
  • After its best start since 2006-07 at 6-1, La Salle has dropped its last three games with losses to Navy, Penn, and Rider. The team's six wins match its total from a season ago.
  • After deflecting two shots against Penn, senior Shalina Miller overtook Suzi McCaffrey '86 for third all-time with 137 career blocks. Miller is 10 behind Linda French '87 and 14 behind Amy Griffin '18. Miller ranks 17th in the nation in blocks with 24 and 19th in blocks per game at 2.4.
  • Freshmen and sophomores are accounting for 61.6% of the Explorers' points. Of the 61.6%, 53.3% come from the team's top four scorers - freshman Claire Jacobs, sophomore Kayla Spruill, freshman Jordon Lewis, and freshman Amy Jacobs.
  • Rookie Claire Jacobs leads La Salle with 10.0 ppg on 34.6% from the floor and 40.5% from long range. Jacobs scores 0.7 more a game than sophomore Kayla Spruill at 9.3 ppg as the next highest scorer. Spruill adds 4.9 rpg, which is fourth best on the team.
  • Senior Shalina Miller tops the squad in rebounding at 7.9 rpg. Rookie Jordon Lewis is next with 5.1.
  • Collectively, the Blue & Gold is scoring 63.6 ppg and hold opponents to 62.1 ppg.
  • La Salle sits among the nation's best in three pointers and blocks. The team has made 85 long balls this season which ranks 27th in the country, while the Explorers' 53 deflections ranks 14th.
SCOUTING THE DRAGONS:
  • Drexel enters play at 5-4 overall after dropping its most recent game at Bucknell, 60-49.
  • Senior Bailey Greenberg is pacing the Dragons with 21.1 points per outing, which is best in the CAA and 11th in the nation. Greenberg also leads the squad in rebounding with 5.4 rpg.
  • Sophomore Keishana Washington is the next top scorer with 8.2 points on average.
  • Collectively, the Dragons are scoring 58.9 ppg and allowing opponents to drop 60.3 ppg.
THE SERIES:
  • La Salle holds the all-time record in the series against the Dragons, 19-10.
  • The teams first squared off in 1974.
  • Despite the advantage for the Explorers, Drexel has claimed the last five matchups, dating back to 2010.
