PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle softball schedule was released on Wednesday, head coach
Brooke Darreff announced. In total, the Explorers are slated for 53 games this season, including four tournaments to start the campaign.
The Blue & Gold will commence the 2019 season in the Wings Etc. Classic hosted by USC – Upstate on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 21 & 22. In the event, La Salle will play four games – one against Maine, Tennessee Tech, USC – Upstate, and Virginia.
The following weekend, the Explorers fly out to the University of New Mexico for the Lobo Classic. La Salle is scheduled for five games during the long weekend on Friday, Feb. 28 through Sunday, March 1. The Explorers will see the hosting Lobos twice, North Texas twice, and South Dakota once.
La Salle heads just south to Towson for the DiMarini Tiger Clash on Friday, March 6 through Sunday, March 8. The Blue & Gold will take on Iona and Towson in a pair of games each, while facing Stony Brook for a single bout.
The Explorers wrap up tournament play at the East Carolina Purple and Gold Invitational in Greenville, N.C. with another five games. La Salle opens the invite with the Big 10 foe, Rutgers, followed by a pair against ECU and Sacred Heart. The invite spans from Friday, March 13 through Sunday, March 15.
During spring break, the Blue & Gold head to Rider for a mid-week doubleheader on Thursday, March 19. The proceeding weekend, La Salle takes West Campus Field for the first time as it welcomes George Mason for a three game conference series. A five game home stand concludes with a Wednesday twin bill against Penn and the Quakers.
Atlantic 10 competition continues during the final weekend of March with a trip to St. Bonaventure for a three-game spurt.
After a long trip to Olean, the Explorers host their next seven games with a pair of midweek doubleheaders against Lafayette and Lehigh sandwiched around an A-10 series with Rhode Island. During Sunday's game against Rhody, the program will host its annual Alumni Day.
The next five games are on the road with La Salle heading to Dayton for a three-game set and a Wednesday doubleheader downtown against Drexel.
After being away, the Blue & Gold will host UMass in a three-game series in the middle of April before a quick trip to Saint Joseph's for the uncommon A-10 midweek doubleheader. The following weekend will have the Explorers in the nation's capital to take on George Washington for their final road conference series.
In the final week of the regular season, La Salle plays a single game at Villanova and concludes things hosting Fordham on the first weekend of May. Sunday's regular-season finale against the Minutewomen will serve as the team's senior day.
The Atlantic 10 Championship will take place from Wednesday, May 6 to Saturday, May 9 at the Billiken Sports Center in St. Louis, Mo. The top six teams from regular season play will advance to the tournament.
