PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle women's basketball team (3-19, 0-8 A-10) will head south this weekend for a Sunday afternoon game against the Davidson Wildcats (12-8, 6-1 A-10). Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. with the game airing on ESPN+.
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
- La Salle has dropped its last 10 games, most recently falling to Fordham, 65-54. The Explorers mounted a comeback with a 23-9 run over an 11:23 span to tie the game early in the fourth quarter, however the Rams prevailed. Senior Jeryn Reese set a career mark with 15 points.
- Sophomore Rayshel Brown scored 10+ points in her fifth consecutive game played after dropping 10 against the Spiders.
- At least one Explorer has scored a career high in points in nine of the last 14 games.
- Over the last 16 games, La Salle has posted a +18 turnover margin, with eight negative outings. Over that span, the team has collected 163 steals - good enough for 10.2 per contest.
- The Explorers are first in the A-10 in both steals (204) and steals per game (9.3). The 204 steals have La Salle ranked 40th nationally.
- Sophomore Rayshel Brown is the team's active leading scorer with 8.3 points per game. Junior Shalina Miller (7.6 ppg), senior Jeryn Reese (7.3 ppg), and sophomore Michelle Nicholls (7.3 ppg) are the next top scorers.
- On the glass, junior Shalina Miller (6.5 rpg) and senior Jeryn Reese (6.0 rpg) are topping the team in rebounds.
- Junior Shalina Miller is fourth in program history in blocks with 92 and is currently second in the conference in blocks (43) and blocks per game (2.0). Her 43 deflections also have Miller ranked 30th in the nation.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS:
- Davidson comes into Sunday's game with a 12-8 overall record and 6-1 mark in the conference, under second year head coach Gayle Coats Fulks. The Wildcats only blemish in conference play came at the hands of UMass, 70-58, at home. As of late, Davidson is riding a two-game win streak with victories on the road over Fordham (60-56) and George Washington (62-42).
- The Wildcats have the league's highest scoring offense, averaging 67.3 points per outing. The team boasts four different players in double digit point averages – Justine Lyon (13.2), Sarah Donovan (13.1), Katie Turner (13.0), and Kianna Speight (10.0).
- Collectively, Davidson is shooting 39.6% from the field on the season, including 31.5% from long range.
- Defensively, the Wildcats are allowing opponents to score 61.8 points on average. They sit as the A-10's team with the best turnover margin at +3.1.
- Davidson has started the same lineup in all 20 games this season.
THE SERIES:
- One of the more recent rivalries in La Salle's history, the Explorers and Wildcats first started going head to head during the 2014-15 season when Davidson joined the Atlantic 10.
- Overall, the Explorers hold the all-time advantage, 3-2, however the Wildcats claimed the most recent game in the teams' only bout last season.
