PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle men's golf team has signed three student-athletes to National Letters of Intent, announce Head Coach and Director of Golf
Scott Yurgalevicz. Rising freshmen Kristian Fortis, Nikita Romanov, and Karsen Rush will be joining the squad next season.
One of the high school seniors in the Miami area, Fortis was a captain of his golf team at Palmer Trinity and a two-time All-Dade County selection. Hailing from Key Largo, Fla., Fortis won a number Junior Golf events, and recently shot 66 to finish tied for first at the Dade County Junior Golf Tournament at The Country Club of Miami. He qualified as an individual for the Florida State Championship in his senior year.
"Kristian has been an elite junior golfer since he was 8-years-old," Yurgalevicz said. "La Salle will be a great fit where he can grow into an elite player in the Philadelphia area. Luckily for La Salle, he loves cold weather even though he's from the Florida Keys. We're looking forward to what he can do in his four years at La Salle."
The #1 senior in the state of Delaware, Romanov has been atop the leaderboard for numerous years in the First State. Romanov has racked up over 20 wins in the Philly Junior Tour in his high school career and was Player of the Year for his division in 2016. He also played on two Williamson Cup teams representing the state of Delaware. Romanov attends Mount Pleasant High School and lives in Wilmington, Del.
"Nikita comes from an elite athletic pedigree," Yurgalevicz said. "Both his parents were Olympic figure skaters and have instilled a world class work ethic in him. Nikita is a very mature golfer, he understands his golf game, and plays within himself. He is fully committed to becoming an impact player at La Salle. Nikita understands how to win, the pressure of big events, and I think that will translate well to DI golf."
One of the top seniors in the state of Pennsylvania, Rush won five events in 2018 and recorded a top 10 finish in 10 nationally ranked events across the country. The Chambersburg, Pa. native had a stretch of three events where he placed first and a span of seven consecutive rounds under par in tournament play. Rush will graduate from Chambersburg Area Senior High School this spring.
"Karsen is everything you want in a recruit," Yurgalevicz said. "He is smart, a great ball striker, knows his golf game well, and most importantly isn't afraid of going low during a round. He's played at an extremely high level for numerous years and we are excited to see what he can do at La Salle."
