NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Junior
Anthony Hawthorne and freshman
Chris Lewis of the La Salle University men's track and field team received weekly honors from the Atlantic 10 Conference on Tuesday. Hawthorne was named Track Performer of the Week, while Lewis claimed Rookie Performer of the Week for the second week in a row.
After reaching the NCAA Championships last spring, Hawthorne made his outdoor season debut in the 800-meter run at the Florida Relays over the weekend. He placed 17th among 60 of the nation's top 800-meter runners, finishing in 1:49.46. That mark is the fastest in the A-10 so far this year.
Lewis was the top Division I finisher in two events at the Fred Hardy Invitational. He just missed his personal record in the 100-meter dash, posting a time of 10.78 seconds, while he sprinted to the tune of 21.73 seconds in the 200 meters. Lewis currently ranks third in the A-10 in both events.
