PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle women's basketball team (7-11, 1-4 A-10) looks to make it two wins in a row on Thursday when it travels to Richmond for a morning game against the Spiders (7-11, 0-4 A-10). The game will air live on ESPN+.
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
- La Salle is fresh off a 67-61 victory over St. Bonaventure this past Saturday. The win marked the Blue & Gold's first A-10 victory of the season and number seven on the season, surpassing last year's total of six.
- The Explorers had their best start in 13 years at 6-1 before dropping 10 straight. The start included comeback wins over Harvard and Penn State of 16+ points.
- Freshman Claire Jacobs is the reigning Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week after her performances against UMass and St. Bonaventure. The Aussie scored a freshman record 29 points against UMass and added 16 points and a career best eight rebounds over the Bonnies.
- C. Jacobs is the team's leading scorer at 12.3 ppg. She is hitting 37.6% of her shots, including 35.0% from three-point range. She's scored 10+ in nine games, 15+ in eight games, and 20+ in three games.
- Sophomore Kayla Spruill has dropped double figures in her last six outings to push her average to 9.6 ppg. Spruill is now up to 10 games of 10+ points this season.
- Freshmen Jordon Lewis and Amy Jacobs round out the Explorers top four scorers at 7.8 and 7.3 ppg, respectively. The quartet is accounting for 59.4% of La Salle's scoring this season. They lead an underclassmen group (freshmen and sophomores) which makes up 68.0% of the Explorers' offense.
- Senior Shalina Miller paces the team with 7.1 rebounds, 2.1 blocks, and 1.1 steals per game. The Philadelphia native is tied with Amy Griffin '18 for the program blocks records at 151.
- Junior Kate Hill has established herself as one of the best ball handlers in the nation. Hill leads the Atlantic 10 in assist to turnover ratio at 2.72 and ranks 15th in the country. She's second in the league in assists and assists per game. Since being inserted into the starting lineup against Villanova, Hill has 50 assists and 12 turnovers for a 4.2 ratio and 7.1 assists per game. The Toronto, Ontario native has the most games in the A-10 of seven or more assists at seven, with the next highest being four.
- La Salle is scoring 61.6 points per game and allowing its opponents 68.5 ppg.
SCOUTING THE SPIDERS:
- Richmond is led by first year head coach Aaron Roussell.
- The Spiders are averaging 62.3 ppg and allowing their opponents 65.1 ppg.
- A trio are near or above double figure point totals, led by Jaide Finds-Clarke with 10.9 ppg. She's shooting 42.9% from the floor and leads the team in rebounding at 5.3 rpg.
THE SERIES:
- Richmond holds the series record 21-7 after sweeping last year's two games.
- The Spiders have taken 15 of the last 16 games, including the last five.
- La Salle's last win came during the 2016-17 season.
