Women’s Basketball Takes on Saint Joseph’s in Big 5 Finale

PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle women's basketball team (7-12, 0-3 Big 5, 1-5 A-10) will conclude its Big 5 slate on Sunday as it welcomes Saint Joseph's (8-10, 1-2 Big 5, 2-4 A-10). Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. with the game airing live on ESPN+.
 
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
  • After falling short of the comeback against Richmond, La Salle enters play at 7-12 overall and 1-5 in league play.
  • With her first block against Richmond, senior Shalina Miller broke the all-time block record with 152 career deflections. Miller surpassed Amy Griffin's 151 which was set back in 2018. Miller leads the team with 40 block and 2.1 bpg, adding a team best 7.2 rpg.
  • Freshman Claire Jacobs is the Explorers' leading scorer with 12.1 points per outing. The Aussie set a La Salle rookie record with 29 points against UMass and has scored 10+ points in nine games, 15+ in eight games, and 20+ in three games.
  • Sophomore Kayla Spruill has been the most consistent scorer for La Salle with 10 or more points in 11 games this season, including the last seven. Spruill is averaging 10.0 ppg and is second on the team in rebounds (5.4).
  • Freshmen Jordon Lewis (7.7 ppg) and Amy Jacobs (7.3 ppg) round out the top four scorers for the Explorers. The quartet are accounting for 59% of La Salle's scoring.
  • Junior Kate Hill has established herself as one of the best ball handlers in the nation. Hill leads the Atlantic 10 in assist to turnover ratio at 2.73 and ranks 12th in the country. Since being inserted into the starting lineup against Villanova, Hill has 53 assists and 13 turnovers for a 4.08 ratio and 6.6 assists per game.
  • La Salle's seven wins have surpassed last year's total of six.
  • The Explorers are scoring 61.6 points per game and allowing their opponents 68.2.
SCOUTING THE HAWKS:
  • Saint Joseph's is led by 19th year head coach Cindy Griffin and sit at 8-10 overall and 2-4 in conference play.
  • The Hawks are scoring 55.1 points per game and holding opponents to 54.8.
  • Katie Jekot (10.4 ppg) leads the team as its only double figure point scorer since the departure of Claire Melia.
  • Gabby Smalls sits atop the Hawks roster in rebounds with 5.9 rpg.
  • Saint Joseph's ranks first in the Atlantic 10 and 11th in the nation in three-point defense, allowing opponents to hit just 25.4% of their shots.
THE SERIES:
  • Saint Joseph's owns the all-time series 50-10, including the past seven and 21 of the last 22.
  • La Salle's last win against the Hawks came during the 2015-16 season as the Explorers downed St. Joe's inside Gola Arena, 75-70.
