PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle softball team has added transfer pitcher
Kelly Toomey to the roster as a mid-year enrollee, head coach
Brooke Darreff announced. The sophomore comes to the Blue & Gold from UNC Wilmington where she played one season.
"We are beyond excited to have Kelly join our team," Darreff said. "She is a wonderful addition not only to the team, but to our pitching staff. Kelly brings a strong work-ethic and wonderfully positive attitude. We expect Kelly to jump into a large role immediately."
Toomey made 10 appearances as a freshman for the Seahawks, all in relief. The Cedar Grove, N.J. native posted a 5.11 earned run average as a rookie over 12.1 innings pitched. A left hander, Toomey registered 10 strikeouts. Off the field, she received the CAA Commissioner's Academic Award for both fall 2018 and spring 2019 for posting a 3.2 or better GPA. At La Salle, Toomey plans to major in business administration.
"I chose La Salle because of the positive team culture and how welcoming the team and coaches were as soon as I stepped on campus," Toomey said. "They immediately made me feel like I was part of the La Salle softball family."
La Salle softball begins the 2020 campaign on Friday, Feb. 21 against Maine and Tennessee Tech.
