PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle women's basketball team (4-6) will finish non-conference play with a rescheduled game against the Drexel Dragons (5-1) on Wednesday at Tom Gola Arena. Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m. with the game streaming nationally on ESPN+ and internationally through the Atlantic 10.
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
- La Salle is fresh off a dominant win over Saint Joseph's this past Sunday. The victory over the Hawks is tied for the largest in program history over SJU at 15 points. The Explorers' 81 points is the most ever under head coach Mountain MacGillivray.
- Sophomore Claire Jacobs led the squad with 21 points and nine rebounds against SJU and is pacing the team in points per game with 15.4. She is shooting 41.1% from the field and corralling 4.9 rpg for second best on the squad. Jacobs has registered 10+ points in 17 of her last 19 games, including 16+ points in seven of her nine games this season.
- Junior Molly Masciantonio ranks second in scoring with 8.7 ppg. The Morton, Pa. native has recorded seven or more points in all but one game this season.
- Junior Kayla Spruill is third on the Explorers in points per outing with 8.5 and leads the Blue & Gold in rebounding at 5.3 on average. Spruill has missed the last four games.
- Sophomore Jordon Lewis rounds out the top four scorers for La Salle at 6.8 ppg. She's shooting a team best 42.3% from the field, among those who qualify.
- Senior point guard Kate Hill continues to shine as a ball handler and has improved her scoring efforts as of late. The Toronto, Ontario product leads the Explorers with 4.2 assists per game and is up to 6.5 ppg after setting a career high in two of her last three games. In the win over Saint Joseph's, Hill dropped 15 points and handed out a season high seven assists.
- In total, 77.8% of La Salle's scoring is coming from student-athletes with less than two years of DI experience.
SCOUTING THE DRAGONS:
- Drexel enters play at 5-1 overall under first year head coach Amy Mallon and are riding a three-game win streak.
- The Dragons are scoring 62.7 points per outing and holding opponents to just 48.5 ppg.
- Collectively, the group is shooting 41.0% from the field, 25.0% from three-point range, and 76.4% from the stripe.
- Hannah Nihill leads Drexel in scoring with 15.0 points per game, followed by Keishana Washington (12.4), Kate Connolly (8.7), and Mariah Leonard (8.0).
SERIES HISTORY:
- La Salle holds the all-time record 19-11 dating back to 1974, however Drexel has claimed the last six meetings.
- The Explorers last victory came back in December of 2009 and most recent win at home was in November of 2008.
- Overall, the Blue & Gold are 13-4 inside Tom Gola Arena against the Dragons.
