PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The La Salle women's basketball team looks to bounce back from its season-opener loss against Coppin State as it takes on the Rider Broncs this Saturday, Nov. 13 at Tom Gola Arena for homecoming. Tipoff is set for 12 p.m.
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
- La Salle will take on Rider for the 13th time overall on Saturday afternoon. It will be the seventh time the Broncs have visited the Explorers at home.
- Â La Salle fell in its season opener on Tuesday night against Coppin State, 73-70.
- Senior Kayla Spruill started off her senior campaign with a bang earning a double-double to begin the season with 16 points and a career-high 17 rebounds.
- Claire Jacobs earned double-digits in scoring with 15 points on 5-of-11 shooting, 3-of-4 from beyond arc and 3-of-4 from the line.
- Jaye Haynes got her second career start on Tuesday night. She shot 100.0% from the link sinking all four free throw attempts and finished the night in double digits with 13 points.
- After ranking at the bottom of the A-10 in rebounding, La Salle opened the season by out-rebounding the Eagles 44-40. The Explorers shined on the offensive side with 19 rebounds to Coppin State's 11.
- In total, nine of the 10 Explorers to make an appearance scored, including first-time points for freshman Kenya Côté-Lysius.
- The squad is shooting 31.6% from the floor, 25.6% from the long range and 80.0% from the line.
SCOUTING THE BRONCS:
- Rider advanced to the MAAC Semifinals for the fifth-straight season in 2020-21.
- Â Makayla Firebaugh and Raphaela Toussaint were named to the preseason All-MAAC Second-Team and Third-Team respectively.
- Â Firebaugh led the Broncs a season ago at 11.0 points, while also averaging 4.4 reboundson her way to being named MAAC Co-Rookie of the Year.
- Toussaint joined Firebaugh on the MAAC All-Rookie Team after finishing the year second in the team in both points (7.5) and rebounds (5.2).
- Â Toussaint scored a career-high 21 points in the Broncs' season opener at Penn State. Jessika Schiffer added a career-high five assists and Amanda Mobley tied a career-high with four steals.
- Â Rider was picked to finish fifth by the league's coaches this season.
SERIES HISTORY:
- Rider has won three-straight against La Salle with the teams last meeting on Dec. 7, 2019. The Explorers saw their largest margin of defeat in the game falling to the Broncs 70-43.
- La Salle is currently 5-1 when facing Rider at home having recorded its largest margin of victory (29) back on Nov. 17, 2000 at home.
- The Explorers have not won a contest at home against the Broncs since their 78-58 win on Dec. 19, 2010.
