PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The La Salle women's basketball team travels across town for its first road matchup of the season on Wednesday, Nov. 17 against the Drexel Dragons. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
- La Salle will take on Drexel for the 32nd time overall on Wednesday night. It will be the 13th time the Explorers have paid a visit to the Dragons since the teams' first matchup in 1974.
- La Salle returns to the court following and overtime victory against Rider on Saturday, Nov. 13. The Explorers won the game 67-58.
- Senior Kayla Spruill her second-straight double-digit performance in points and rebounds (16 pts, 14 rbs). She shot 50.0% from the field and the 3-point range. The forward had a perfect first quarter going 3-of-3 from the field, 1-of-1 from beyond the arc and 2-of-2 from the line.
- Jaye Haynes led the scoring effort for La Salle notching a career-high 19 points on 6-of-10 shooting, 2-of-4 from deep and 5-of-6 from the line.
- A 50-50 tie at the end of regulation forced the game into overtime. The Explorers got off to an early advantage with three-straight 3-pointers from Jordon Lewis, Amy Jacobs and Jaye Haynes.
- The Explorers once again out-rebounded their opponent with 45 rebounds to Rider's 39. La Salle outshined the Broncs in offensive rebounds, 19-10.
- In total, nine of the 10 Explorers to make an appearance scored. La Salle ranks fourth in the A-10 in scoring with 64.6 points per game and first in free throw percentage shooting 76.0% from the line.
- The squad is shooting 30.8% from the floor, 26.8% from the long range and 80.0% from the line.
SCOUTING THE DRAGONS:
- The Drexel women's basketball team got off to a hot start and never looked back on Friday, Nov. 12 as the Dragons downed Saint Joseph's in a 63-55 victory.
- Tessa Brugler led Drexel with 19 points in the game with 15 of them coming in the second quarter alone.
- Mariah Leonard totaled 14 points and tied for the team lead with seven rebounds.
- Keishana Washington and Hannah Nihill each posted double-digit scoring efforts totaling 12 and 10 points, respectively. Nihill added five assists and Washington walked away with four steals.
- Kate Connolly tied for the team lead with seven boards.
- The Dragons currently sit at 1-1 on the season losing their home opener against Marist, 52-50, on Nov. 9.
SERIES HISTORY:
- La Salle and Drexel last faced off during the 2020-21 season in Tom Gola Arena. The Explorers defeated the Dragons in a close contest, 58-55.
- In the all-time series, the Explorers lead the Dragons 20-11. The recent 2021 victory snapped a six-game losing streak for the Explorers. La Salle has not eclipsed a victory on the road against Drexel since 2009.
- The victory last season marks just the fourth contest decided by three points or less between the two teams.
- The Explorers are currently 6-7 when playing at Drexel.
ATTENDANCE POLICY:
- All visitors to Drexel campus facilities must obtain a Drexel Health Checker Visitor Pass before they are allowed in campus spaces. This applies to anyone who is not a student or employee (anyone without a current Drexel email address) who will be entering any Drexel building or attending a Drexel indoor event on any campus- including parents, volunteers, guest lecturers, spectators attending games or performances, and campus or student organization program participants.
- All visitors must access the Drexel Health Checker Visitor Pass online 24 hours or less before arriving on campus, attest to being fully vaccinated and answer health screening questions. If they attest to being fully vaccinated, with no symptoms, no recent positive COVID-19 test, and no exposures to COVID-19, they will receive a Green Pass to show on request at University events and locations. In addition to a Green Pass, visitors should bring proof of vaccination and personal ID in case particular programs check this information prior to admission. Visitors who do not receive a Green Pass must NOT come to campus.
- Visitors currently not eligible for vaccine due to their young age are still welcome on campus, following our minors policy, as long as they wear a mask and abide by the program procedures. Visitors must not come to campus if they have any symptoms of COVID-19.
