Field Hockey Set for Weekend Matches with Bryant, Drexel

PHILADELPHIA – After securing a win in their home opener on Sunday, La Salle field hockey is back at home for one more against Bryant on Friday, Sept. 3 at 3 p.m. before hitting the road to face Drexel on Sunday, Sept. 5 at 12 p.m.
 
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
  • In their last outing, the Explorers secured their first win under new head coach Martu Loncarica, 3-0 over Merrimack.
  • Freshman Sofia Pla scored twice, giving her three goals in her first two collegiate games.
  • Pla's opening weekend efforts earned her Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honors.
  • Sophomore Tatum Johnson tallied the other goal for the Explorers, her first of the season.
  • Through two games, La Salle ranks third in the A10 in goals per game (2.500), goals (5), and margin (1.00).
  • Sophomore keeper Ryan Curley picked up her first career win in her third career start on Sunday, and holds a goals-against average of 1.42 with 16 saves through two contests.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS:
  • The Bulldogs enter play 0-2 after a pair of opening weekend defeats against Providence and UMass Lowell.
  • Friday's game will be their third-straight road game to start the season, where they have been outscored 9-0 through two games.
  • Bryant dropped their opener at Providence 4-0, where they were outshot 23-0.
  • The Bulldogs then fell 5-0 to UMass Lowell, where they were outshot 24-4.
  • Goalkeeper Marjin Jaarsma has made 25 saves in two starts, stopping shots at a .735 clip.
SCOUTING THE DRAGONS:
  • Drexel enters play 0-2 after a pair of tight, one goal losses in their opening weekend.
  • In their season opener, the Dragons fell 1-0 to Longwood despite keeper Megan Hadfield's four saves.
  • In their second game, Drexel let an early lead slip away in a 3-2 decision against Temple.
  • Hannah Nihill scored just 40 seconds into the game, but Temple rallied to score the next three goals.
  • Emily Owens pulled the Dragons within a goal with just over seven minutes remaining, but the Owls held on late
