BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - A pair of La Salle University men's track & field student-athletes concluded their standout seasons at the NCAA Outdoor East Preliminary Round Friday.

Dennis Manyeah rounded out an illustrious career by narrowly missing out on a trip to nationals in the high jump, while Liam Rivard competed in the quarterfinal round of the 800-meter run.

Manyeah, a Second Team All-American last season, passed on the opening height of 2.00m and missed his first two jumps at 2.05m before clearing on his third and final attempt to move forward to the next height. 

At 2.10m, the Darby, Pa. product easily moved on to the next height of 2.15m. Manyeah needed all three of his attempts again at that height, which only 14 of the 48 jumpers in the competition cleared.

Unfortunately, Manyeah was not able to clear 2.18m - which would have set a new La Salle school record that he currently holds - and tied for ninth with four other athletes. The tiebreaker for advancing to nationals was attempts each needed to advance, and Manyeah's seven was one more than Miami's Isaiah Holmes, who earned the final qualifying spot.

In the 800m, Rivard got off to a fast start in the second heat and was even with the pack through the first 200m. The junior dropped back and tried to kick at the end but could not make up the difference and finished seventh in the heat and 19th overall.

The final day of NCAA East Prelims will feature two more Explorers looking for a chance to advance to the national championships. Christine Mancini will take part in the 800-meter run at 7:05 p.m., while sister Liz Mancini will run in the 5,000 meters at 8:10 p.m.
