Explorers Set for Busy Weekend at Home

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The La Salle field hockey team is prepped for a busy weekend on its home turf hosting Massachusetts on Friday, Sep. 30 at 3 p.m. followed by Georgetown on Sunday, Oct. 2 at 11 a.m. Both games will stream live on ESPN+, weather permitting.
 
The Explorers will honor their senior class prior to the contest on Sunday and invites all alumni back for an on-field recognition at halftime.
 
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
  • La Salle returns home following a tough overtime loss at Villanova last Sunday. The Explorers gave up an early 1-0 lead to the Wildcats, but goals from Zhao Rodrigo and Tatum Johnson pushed La Salle ahead of Villanova 2-1 with just under five minutes remaining.
  • Villanova answered the call almost immediately to tie it up and send it into overtime where the Wildcats had the final say with the golden goal.
  • The Explorers look to snap a four-game skid having last recorded a victory on its home turf against Rider on Sep. 11.
  • Johnson leads the scoring effort for La Salle with a team-high 15 points from six goals and three assists.
  • Cat McFadden, Sol Espona and Sofia Pla have each registered two goals this season.
  • Ryan Curley has recorded 630 minutes in the cage in 10 games. She holds a .706 save percentage and has totaled 48 saves on 123 shots faced. The junior has one shutout this season against Rider.
SCOUTING THE MINUTEWOMEN:
  • Massachusetts currently sits at 8-2 on the season with its only losses coming against No. 1 Northwestern and No. 6 Iowa. The Minutewomen are currently on a four-game win streak averaging three goals per game through the last four contests.
  • The Minutewomen visit La Salle for their first road game since a shutout loss at Iowa on Sep. 11. Massachusetts most recently defeated Columbia 3-1.
  • Mali Herberhold leads the scoring effort for the Mintuewomen with 10 points from six goals and seven assists.
  • Jess Beech and Claire Danahy have both totaled four goals this season while Gabrielle Benkenstein has recorded three.
  • In total, seven Minutewomen have recorded more than one goal this season.
  • Myrte van Herwijnen has recorded over 602 minutes in the cage this season. She holds a .712 save percentage totaling 42 saves on 102 shots faced.
SCOUTING THE HOYAS:
  • Georgetown enters the contest with the Explorers at 3-7 overall. The Hoyas are currently on a four-game skid of their own most recently dropping a contest against Rider 0-4.
  • The Hoyas are 1-4 when playing on the road with their only win coming against Saint Francis (Pa.).
  • Georgetown is averaging 1.60 goals per game and 11.3 shots per game.
  • VivienneTrumpbour leads the scoring effort for Georgetown with a team-high 11 points from four goals and three assists.
  • Emma van der Veen, Sophie Towne, Lindasay Dervine and Skyler Lesslie have all recorded more than a single goal this season.
  • Ciara Weets has started and played in all 10 games for the Hoyas recording over 529 minutes of playing time. She holds a .683 save percentage totaling 69 saves on 144 shots faced.
