PHILADELPHIA - La Salle University head field hockey coach
Martu Loncarica has stepped down for her position to accept a similar role at the University of Richmond, Vice President for Athletics/Director of Athletics & Recreation Ashwin Puri announced on Tuesday.
"We are appreciative of the work that Martu did to support our student-athletes over the past three years," Puri said. "We are excited about the trajectory of our field hockey program, and have already begun the search for our next head coach."
Loncarica went 28-27 in her three seasons as head coach of the Explorers, including a 13-6 mark this past season. La Salle advanced to the Atlantic 10 Tournament for the first time since 2011. For her efforts, Loncarica was named A-10 Coach of the Year.
"For the past three seasons, I have been blessed to have the opportunity to interact and grow with the wonderful group of student-athletes who make up La Salle Field Hockey," Loncarica said. "I admire their resiliency, their determination, their team unity and their maturity, and I am a better coach, a better person, and, most importantly, a better mom because of them. What they were able to accomplish was amazing. I would like to thank the La Salle administration for giving me this opportunity and the entire La Salle community for supporting me and my family, especially during the past few months. La Salle Field Hockey will always have a special place in my heart."
