Women’s Basketball Welcomes Big 5 School Temple to Tom Gola Arena

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple Owls will make the trip north on Broad Street on Sunday, December 17th at 1:00 p.m. when the La Salle Explorers play host in this contest. Temple enters tomorrow with a 5-5 record; the Explorers sit at 3-6.

SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
  • La Salle will be coming off ten days of rest before taking on Temple. The last time out for the Explorers was at Lehigh when they fell 60-106.
  • Nicole Melious led the team in scoring against Lehigh, and is the team's leading points-getter this season. She has a three-game streak of scoring double digit points.
  • Tiara Bolden is coming off her best game off the glass against Lehigh. The freshman secured eight rebounds, four offensive and four defensive. Bolden is second on the team in rebounds pulled in this season.
  • Graduate Student Molly Masciantonio scored 13 points her last time out, the most for her this season. She went 4-9 from the field, and 4-4 from the free throw line. The last meeting between these two teams, Masciantonio had a big role in it scoring three points, three rebounds, and six assists.
  • La Salle and Temple have had a historic rivalry, but Temple has had the Explorer's number for a while now. This will be the 52nd meeting all time, with Temple leading the series 30-21.
  • The Explorers have only found two wins since 1999, with their last win coming in 2013 on the road. The last home win for La Salle against Temple was in 1999.
 
SCOUTING THE OWLS:
  • Temple enters the game tomorrow sitting at .500 this season (5-5). Their last game was a victory over the Delaware Blue Hens 72-65 at the Liacouras Center.
  • The Owl's non-conference schedule is one that has faced a lot of admirable teams, including the #23 ranked Ole Miss Rebels, Villanova Wildcats, and Saint Joseph's Hawks.
  • All three of those game resulted in loses, however the Owls only fell by two points to the Hawks, someone the Explorers will face twice during A-10 conference play.
  • 5th year Aleah Nelson is the player to watch going into tomorrow's game for the Owls. The guard is averaging 11.4 points per game, shooting .382 from the field.
  • The Owls are led by second year head coach Diane Richardson.
