Women's Basketball | April 25, 2023

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – La Salle women's basketball head coach Mountain MacGillivray announced the addition of four transfers to the Explorers' roster for the 2023-24 season.

Jolene Armendariz, Gabby Turco, Makayla Miller and Tiara Bolden will all don the Blue & Gold next season.

"We are pleased to announce the signing of four players who all possess a great combination of athleticism and skill," said MacGillivray.

Armendariz, a 6-0 guard, comes to La Salle from San Francisco State where she was named newcomer of the year and CCAA All-Honorable mention for the 2021-22 season. The Canyon Lake, California native attended Lakeside High School where she averaged a team-high 23.4 points and 9.7 rebounds per game in her junior season. The guard was named MVP for Lakeside and was a First Team All-League selection.

"I chose La Salle because I felt like it fit my style of play and I wanted to go somewhere I was wanted," said Armendariz.

"We're really excited to have Jolene joining our team. She is a highly competitive athlete who can score the ball from the perimeter, off the dribble and rebounds at a really high level," said MacGillivray.

Gabby Turco hails from Wildwood, New Jersey and joins the Explorers after a stint with Saint Anslem. The 5-10 guard was named to the NE10 All-Rookie Team and Third Team All-Conference following the 2021-22 season. Most recently, she earned a spot on the Second Team All-Conference. The Wildwood Catholic graduate scored over 1,000 points during her high school career.

"I chose La Salle because I wanted to be closer to home and to compete at a high level on and off the court," said Turco.

"We are really happy to have Gabby join us at La Salle. Gabby's ability to score the ball and create her own shot off the dribble is going to add a dimension to our team that we need," said MacGillivray.

Miller comes to the City of Brotherly Love all the way from Little Rock, Arkansas. She previously attended Ouachita Baptist where she was named All-GAC Conference three times. The 5-7 guard also earned a spot on the GAC All-Tournament team and two GAC Player of the Week honors.

"I chose La Salle because it felt family oriented and fit my style of play," said Miller.

"We were hoping to get faster and more explosive and Makayla is that and then some. Her ability to score at the rim and in the mid-range for a player her size is uncanny," said Miller.

Bolden will make the trek to 20th & Olney from her hometown of Eugene, Oregon. The Churchill High School graduate comes to La Salle from Eastern Arizona. A 5-11 guard, Bolden recorded 25 starts in her single season at EAC averaging 9.1 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. She earned the honor of ACCAC Player of the week after grabbing 27 boards in two games to help the Monsters remain at a perfect 9-0 mark.

"I chose La Salle because I wanted to be challenged in the classroom, as well as on the court," said Bolden. "The environment that I experienced made me believe that it could help me so much more."

"Tiara's end-to-end speed just makes her different," said MacGillivray. "She rebounds the ball really well for a guard and scores at all three levels. We are looking forward to het getting to campus."
