SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
- This past Monday, La Salle and Saint Joe's faced off at Hagan Arena in Philadelphia, and the Hawks came out on top 64-39. Makayla Miller and Emilee Tahata lead the charge offensively for the Explorers scoring 14 and 12 points, respectively.
- Miller will enter tomorrow on a five-game streak of scoring double-digit points. In that stretch she has totaled 66 points, her best offensive streak since joining La Salle.
- Tahata had her best offensive performance of the season against the Hawks, scoring her career-high 12 points in the game. She made a total of five field goals made, including two three-pointers, both setting career-highs.
- The first half of play against Saint Joe's was formidable by the Explorers. La Salle went into the break down 22-19, and held the Hawks to only six points in the second quarter and will be looking to continue that defensive performance against a tough Rams team.
- The Explorers live and die by the deep ball. As a team, La Salle is ranked at the top of the A-10 Conference in three-point shot attempts averaging 26.8 per game. That is good for 13th in the entire nation in that category.
- La Salle sits at 3-3 in conference play this year, alongside Davidson and Loyola Chicago. VCU comes into tomorrow at 4-1 in conference games.
- The La Salle, VCU rivalry only dates back to 2013, but the Rams hold an 8-4 lead in the series. La Salle has only found one win while playing at the Siegel Center.
SCOUTING THE RAMS:
- Virginia Commonwealth enters tomorrow at 15-2 overall, 4-1 in conference play. They are riding a three-game winning streak which started against Davidson. They are most recently coming off a 52-36 win over Loyola Chicago last Saturday.
- Sarah Te-Biasu is the Ram to watch on the offensive end of the floor. Te-Biasu ranks eight in the conference averaging 13.9 points per game, while shooting 36% from three.
- On defense, Mykel Parham is the one to watch. She ranks fifth in the A-10 in rebounds, snagging 135 total, 86 on the defensive end of the court.
- Parham is part of what makes this Ram defense so good. As a team, VCU ranks number one in the country in scoring defense, averaging 50.2 points per game. The three-point defense for VCU is also a key part of who they are, ranking fourth in the nation in that category. This will be something to watch considering the number of three-point shots the Explorers put up per game.
