Plymouth Meeting, PA - On Monday and Tuesday, the La Salle University men's golf team competed in the Temple Invitational at The 1912 Club, finishing a three-way tie for first place at the conclusion of 54 holes. The Explorers were awarded third place in lieu of a playoff, due to their extra score being included. Drexel took home the team crown, shooting an 857 (+17), tied with Lehigh and La Salle who took home second and third in points respectively.
Freshman Kyle Virsik led the way for the Explorers, finishing in a tie for third place individually, shooting +2 overall. He shot a 68 (-2) on Tuesday to move himself into the top five for the first time in his collegiate career. The Melbourne, FL native ranked third in the field in par three scoring average, shooting even.
Senior
Armand Loscalzo also notched a top-ten finish for the fourth time in his time as an Explorer, finishing five strokes over par. Loscalzo ranked first among all golfers in par four scoring average, shooting even. As a team, the Explorers finished first and second in par three and par four scoring average, respectively.
Graduate student
Jackson Debusschere notched a top-25 finish for the second time this season, shooting +8 and leading the Explorers in birdies made. Junior
Gavin Dosch and sophomore
Payton Hawke rounded out the Blue and Gold's efforts. Dosch ranked first in the field in pars, while Hawke birdied four holes in his final round.
While there was no playoff, head coach
Avery Papalia did manage to take home his first piece of hardware in his Explorers career as La Salle and Lehigh each went home with 2nd place trophies. The Explorers will return to action October 12 at the Bucknell Invitational.
