This Week In La Salle Athletics: Baseball, Acrobatics & Tumbling Programs Play Inaugural Contests; Seven Teams In Action

Here is a look of the action to come this week for La Salle Athletics, brought to you by Hershey's Ice Cream.   
 
Men's Basketball 
  • After a long week of travel in the Midwest, La Salle returns home to take on VCU on Wednesday at 6:30 pm at John E. Glaser Arena. The Explorers traveled approximately 3,000 miles in the air for road contests at Loyola Chicago and Saint Louis last week and will look to get back on track as they honor National Girls and Women in Sports Day. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.

Women's Basketball 
  • Following the upcoming school week off, the Explorers will return to action on Saturday in Washington, D.C. with their second of as many regular season matchups with George Washington this season.  
  • Last week, freshman Amiya Moses blocked six shots in the loss to Dayton, the most by an Explorer since Amy Griffin on November 16, 2017. Moses currently ranks 5th in the conference in blocks per game (1.3).

Baseball 
  • The La Salle baseball program will take the field for the first time since 2021, as the program opens its first season back in action with a weekend series against Maryland Eastern Shore at Hank DeVincent Field. Originally scheduled to be played in Maryland, the series moved to 20th and Olney last week.  
  • Game times will be Friday at 2:00 pm, Saturday at 10:00 am, and Sunday at 12:00 pm.  
  • Head coach David Miller and the Explorers will reach the final step of reinstating the program with first pitch Friday afternoon after spending nearly two years rebuilding the program since its announced return in early 2024.  
 
Acrobatics & Tumbling 
  • The La Salle Acrobatics and Tumbling program will compete in its inaugural meet on Tuesday, traveling to Baltimore to take on Morgan State at 6:00 pm. Head coach Brianna D'Angelo and the Explorers' vision come to fruition after spending close to two years building the program since its announcement in early 2024.  
  • La Salle enters the 2026 season voted on as the No. 15 program in the country, according to the NCATA Coaches' Poll. The Explorers are the highest-voted first-year program in the poll.

Women's Lacrosse 
  • After a successful opening day win against Delaware State last week, La Salle hits the road to take on Monmouth Wednesday at 2:00 pm. The Explorers will then return home on Saturday to face Howard at 1:00 pm. 
  • Goalie Mary Babbage earned Atlantic 10 Defensive Play of the Week honors on Monday for her six-save, .667 percentage performance in the 17-3 win against Delaware State. La Salle stuffed the scoresheet in that win – the first of Head Coach Kirkland Lewis' La Salle career – with eight different players finding the net. Emi Waldron and Sam Klein led the way with four goals apiece in the effort.

Track & Field 
  • Explorers track and field will compete in the Boston University Valentine Invitational this weekend. The men will compete on Friday, while the women will race on Saturday. 
  • Last week, freshman Kenji Samuel won the men's long jump with a distance of 6.67 meters at the Fastrack National Invite.

Women's Water Polo 
  • La Salle is back in the pool both days this weekend after a season-opening victory over Iona last Saturday night. The Explorers will compete in the Bucknell Invitational in Lewisburg, playing twice on Saturday (Saint Francis at 12:40 pm and Bucknell at 6:00 pm) and once on Sunday (Occidental at 10:20 am).  
  • Rallying from an early deficit, La Salle defeated Iona, 12-10, last Saturday. Goalkeeper Lily Kirby made program history with 19 saves – the most any Explorer has notched in a single game. Samara Eschleman scored four goals, Claire McCulloch notched five points, and Nadya Azzopardi delivered a hat-trick, including the would-be game-winning penalty goal with 5:24 remaining in the contest.
