PHILADELHPIA – There was no let down for the women's soccer team after Friday's thrilling overtime victory as four second half goals keyed a 5-0 victory over Xavier on a picturesque Sunday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium.
“We came out in the second half and did a great job possessing the ball,” said head coach
Paul Royal. “It was a nice way to send off our seniors.”
The Explorers (12-0-1, 4-0) honored eight seniors prior to Sunday's home finale and three of them were able to record points in their final regular season game at McCarthy Stadium.
Dani Allizzo scored the first goal of the game and her first of the season, which proved to be the game winner, in the 13th minute off assists from
Kelsey Haycook and
Renee Washington.
Haycook added two more goals in the second half and another assist to finish the day with a career-high six points.
Washington, who was the hero on Friday night with two goals, also scored in the second half to help pad La Salle's lead.
Leigh Gray also had a solid day and added two assists, her first two points of the season.
Melissa Sanger had another stellar afternoon in net, along with the rest of the Explorer back line. The redshirt senior helped the Explorers earn their 12th shutout of the season with four saves.
The Explorers have now won 11 straight matches and have tied the all-time La Salle single-season win record wtih 12 victories.
La Salle will conclude the remainder of their regular season schedule on the road with five consecutive matches away from McCarthy Stadium. The road trip will begin next Friday night when La Salle pays a visit to Rhode Island.
