Box Score DAYTON, Oh. — For the first time all season, La Salle found themselves on the losing end of a women's soccer match as the top-seeded Explorers were stunned 1-0 by No. 4 UMass in an A-10 Semifinal match on Friday night at Bajuan Field. It was the first time since an 0-0 draw against Drexel on Aug. 26 that La Salle failed to score a goal in a match.
"I am incredibly proud of our girls for the effort and perserverance they showed all season," said head coach
Paul Royal. "We have nothing to be ashamed about, it was an incredible season."
Massachusetts (14-4-2) didn't waste any time getting the games' lone goal, scoring in the second minute. Sophomore Cecilia Jensen passed a through ball up the middle into the box and senior Julie Morrissey finished the shot, putting the ball into the upper 90 and out of La Salle keeper
Melissa Sanger's reach.
The Explorers (15-1-3) made a furious rally in the second half, totaling 17 shots to just two by UMass, but the UM defense, anchored by four second-half saves by junior keeper Emily Cota. For the game, La Salle outshot Massachusetts 27-8 and held a 9-5 advantage in corner kicks.

Kelsey Haycook led all players with six shots. Sophomores
Renee Washington and
Courtney Niemiec each tallied five shots for the Explorers. Morrissey led UMass with three shots.
Niemiec had the best chance of the game, clanking a shot off the crossbar late in the second half.
La Salle falls will now await the outcome of the women's soccer NCAA selection show.
