UMass Sweeps Explorers in A-10 DH

May 1, 2011

Box Score

AMHERST, Mass.- The Explorers concluded the road portion to their 2011 schedule by dropping a pair of games to the Massachusetts Minutewomen by scores of 9-2 and 8-0 in six innings.

UMass junior pitcher Sara Plourde pitched back-to-back gems against the Explorers on Sunday afternoon.

In game one, Plourde allowed only two hits in a complete game effort, while striking out 18 La Salle batters. Plourde went on to hold the Explorers hitless while not walking a batter in the second game, earning her a perfect game through a mercy-ruled six innings.

Junior Shannon Skomorucha and senior Ali Shepherd were the only La Salle hitters to solve Plourde in game one.

Skomorucha gave the Explorers their only runs when she knocked in a pair on her two-run home run in the sixth inning of the first game. The home run was Skomorucha's second of the season and her first since March 11, 2011 against Boston University.

La Salle (4-37, 1-15) has the upcoming week off for finals week before closing out its season on Saturday afternoon against the George Washington Colonials in a doubleheader, which is set to begin a 1 p.m. A special senior day ceremony will prelude the contest between the Explorers and Colonials.
