Haycook's First Two Collegiate Goals Help Women's Soccer Cruise Past Rider 4-0

Box Score

PHILADELPHIA – Three first-half goals and another stellar defensive performance helped the La Salle women's soccer team cruise past Rider 4-0 on a sweltering Sunday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium.

Freshman Kelsey Haycook  got things working early and often and tallied her first collegiate goal in the seventh minute off a perfectly placed cross from Courtney Niemiec.

Haycook struck again six minutes later this time off a deflected pass from Morgan Golden to give La Salle a 2-0 lead.

Another freshman, Maryam Huseini also notched her first collegiate goal with the third La Salle tally of the first half in the 32nd minute off another beautiful cross into the box from Gabriella Carbone.

“We were definitely hungry after not playing for nine days,” said head coach Paul Royal. “I was pleased that our freshman were able to pace the attack. Three games in they are getting much more comfortable and it shows on the field.”

The Explorers (2-0-1) capped off the scoring early in the second half with a Niemic goal off a corner from Golden.

Defensively, goalkeeper Melissa Sanger had a very quiet day and did not have to make a save while keeping the clean sheet in tact. Through three games so far this season La Salle has yet to surrender a goal.

The Explorers will have the week off before beginning a four-game road trip next Friday in Boston against Northeastern.
