Explorers Snag Win On The Road Behind Wilson's Double-Double, Top Lehigh 49-48

Box Score

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Brittany Wilson nailed a go-ahead 3-pointer with seven seconds on the clock to lift La Salle past Lehigh, 49-48, at Stabler Arena in Bethlehem, Pa., on Tuesday afternoon. Wilson finished with a double-double, pouring in a game-best 21 points - her fourth straight 20+ point game - and a game-best 11 rebounds.

Ebonee Jones (Odenton, Md./Arundel) added 10 points and six rebounds off the bench.

The Explorers(1-3) jumped out to a 21-11 lead about halfway through the first half, thanks to six points each from Wilson and Arielle Ward. Lehigh's (1-2) Kerry Kinek hit a jumper about 20 seconds later before Jones pushed the Explorer lead back to 10 at the 9:05 mark.

That would be the last double-digit advantage for either team in a game that saw eight ties and seven lead changes. With the Explorers up 23-13, Lehigh went on a 9-0 run to draw within one at the 4:04 mark of the first half. Two Shanel Harrison free throws broke the Explorers' scoring drought and Wilson pushed the lead back to five at 27-22 just under two minutes until halftime.

The squads traded baskets until the Explorers took a 30-25 lead into the break.

Lehigh's Kelly Peterson scored five quick points out of the break to knot the game at 30-30 just before the first media timeout of the second half.

The squads traded leads throughout the rest of the half. Lehigh went up 47-46 on a Lindsay Hoskins free throw at 1:45 and Marybeth Egan added another freebie with 11 seconds on the clock to give the home squad a two-point advantage.

However, it was La Salle with the final advantage as Wilson picked up the defensive rebound on Egan's missed second free throw and raced down the court to nail the game-winning three-pointer with seven seconds on the clock.

Egan attempted another shot for the Mountain Hawks, but it was off the mark to give the Explorers the win.

The Explorers overcame a 27.3 percent shooting night with stellar defense, outrebounding Lehigh 44-40 and forcing 19 Mountain Hawk turnovers to just 12. The Explorers also dominated the offensive glass, pulling down 20 offensive boards to Lehigh's 10.

Lehigh shot 36.7 percent for the game, but just 18.2 percent (2-for-11) from three. The Explorers went 2-for-8 from three.

La Salle returns to action after Thanksgiving when the team makes its first-ever trip to Chapel Hill. Tipoff with North Carolina is set for noon on Saturday (11/24).
