Box Score Box Score

NEWARK, Del. - Senior Breanna DiTommaso put together a 3-for-4 day at the plate to lead the La Salle softball team to a 5-1 win over Delaware in the opening game of Delaware's Spring Invitational.

Sophomore Megan Hodgson added her second collegiate home run, a three-run blast to give the Explorers (3-10) breathing room late in the game.

The Explorers got on the board early with a run in the top of the first. With one out, DiTommaso singled up the middle and later advanced to second on a wild pitch. Alicia Aughton followed up by drawing a walk to put runners at first and second. One out later, Shannon Skomorucha blasted a RBI single through the left side, allowing DiTommaso to score for the game's first run.

Liz Reed drove home the game-winning run in the top of the second as the team took a 2-0 lead. Linnette Siedler led off the inning with a single just past Blue Hen shortstop Alicea Coy. She then stole second and advanced to third on a Tristan Musho fly out to left field. Reed then delivered Siedler home with a three-bag blast to right center.

Delaware (3-20) got its lone run in the bottom of the second on a Gina Knutson leadoff home run.

The Explorers got some insurance in the top of the fifth, when Hodgson blasted a three-run homer to center to score Reed and DiTommaso who had reached on a walk and single, respectively.

Aughton picked up the win in the circle, hurling a complete game and limiting the Blue Hens to five scattered hits and one run. She also struck out one and walked one.

Blue Hen starter Hannah Rust lasted just 1.1 innings, taking the loss. She gave up two earned runs on four hits and issued one wild pitch. Kathleen Conway came on in relief, pitching the remaining 5.2 innings. She gave up three runs on four hits while striking out eight.

The Explorers remain in Delaware through the weekend with a game against Western Michigan at 1:30 followed by Villanova at 3:30.
