Box Score Box Score

NEWARK, Del. - Liz Reed went 2-for-2 with her first triple of the season, but the La Salle softball squad fell 3-0 to Norfolk State in the finale of the Delaware Spring Invitational on Sunday afternoon.

Norfolk State (9-9) got on the board in the top of the third when Alina Moriarty recorded a RBI groundout to second to score Morgan Boyd, who reached on a single two batters prior.

Reed blasted her three-bagger to lead off the bottom of the third, looking to spark an Explorer rally, but the Spartans got a strikeout, line-out and groundout to strand Reed at third.

The Spartans went up 2-0 in the following inning with an unearned run on a RBI double from Nikki Jones, and got another in the sixth for the final 3-0 score.

Reed also got a two-out single in the fifth and Megan Hodgson recorded a two-out single in the sixth.

Alicia Aughton went the distance in the circle, giving up three runs (two earned) on eight hits and struck out one. Liz Riley earned the win for the Spartans, also going all seven innings and giving up three hits, striking out five and walking two.

The Explorers (3-13) return to action on Tuesday (3/20) in their home opener, as they host Villanova in a doubleheader beginning at 2:30 p.m.
