PHILADELPHIA - La Salle and Villanova will meet once again in the softball field for the second time in four days as the Explorers host the Wildcats in a nonconference doubleheader starting at 2:30 this afternoon. The games mark the home opener for the Explorers, who have played on the road since the season began on Feb. 24.

The two squads met on Saturday in the Delaware Spring Invitational, with the Wildcats taking an 8-0 decision.

Scouting La Salle (3-13)...

The Explorers picked up three wins in their spring tournaments, but come in looking to snap a three-game skid. They handily beat Delaware 5-1 to open Spring Invitational play on Friday behind Breanna DiTommaso's 3-for-4 effort at the plate.

Alicia Aughton, who was last week's Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, leads the Explorer offense with a .279 batting average. Fellow rookie Alyssa Bitsimis is second on the squad in hitting, averaging a .267.

Aughton also leads the Explorer pitching squad with a 3-5 record and 2.09 ERA in 12 appearances and eight starts, and has struck out 28 in 67.0 innings pitched.

Scouting Villanova (15-4)...

Villanova went 4-0 in the Delaware Spring Invitational and have won 13 of their last 14.

The Wildcats are led by three players with batting averages over .400, with Jamie O'Hara leading the pack with a .463. The 'Cats have power throughout the lineup with another four players hitting over .300.

Caitlyn Delahaba and Molly Manning split pitching duties. Manning pitched against the Explorers on Saturday. Delahaba leads with a 2.79 ERA  and has an 8-3 record, while Manning is 7-1 with a 2.96 ERA.

Next Up...

The Explorers remain home this weekend for their Atlantic 10 opener, hosting Fordham on Friday at 3 p.m. and on Saturday at noon.
