Box Score CONWAY, S.C. - The La Salle softball team opened its weekend a day early, as the Explorers picked up a game against Coastal Carolina on Thursday evening, getting a first crack at the Chanticleers before the Chanticleer Showdown starts on Friday. Coastal came away with the 3-0 win.
Coastal (16-4) got on the board in the bottom of the first on a RBI single from Kory Hayden. The Chants added two more runs in the third when Jessie Winans scored an unearned run on an error and Hayden recorded a sacrifice fly to score Jazmin Daigle.
The Explorers (0-7) got four scattered hits from
Alicia Aughton,
Breanna DiTommaso,
Shannon Skomorucha and
Kristin Travers, including a Travers double in the seventh.
Travers also went the distance in the circle, giving up three runs (two earned) on six hits, striking out four and walking three. Ashley Bagwell earned the win for the Chants, going all seven innings, scattering four hits and striking out four.
The Explorers return to action on Friday in Coastal's Chanticleer Showdown. The tournament opens with the Explorers facing Hampton at noon, and they will face Coastal once again at 4:30 p.m.
