Shannon Skomorucha and
Linnette Siedler each put together a 2-for-3 day at the plate, but the La Salle softball squad fell to Drexel 10-2 in six innings on Tuesday afternoon at the Drexel Softball Field.
La Salle (6-27) got on the board in the top of the first on an unearned run.
Breanna DiTommaso drew a leadoff walk and moved to second on a
Liz Reed sacrifice bunt.
Megan Hodgson then grounded out to second base, but was able to move DiTommaso to third.
Alicia Aughton reached base on a Dragon fielding error, which scored DiTommaso.
Drexel (17-16) got three runs (two unearned) in the bottom of the frame. Hanna Parrish drew a leadoff walk and moved to second on a Devon Metcalf sac bunt, and then scored on a Paige Collings double to left center. Jenn Reading then doubled to right center. Collings scored on an Explorer miscue and Reading scored the third run on an Amanda Bachmann single.
Skomorucha helped the Explorers get one back in the second with a solo home run to left center.
Drexel added two more in the second on a Collings two-run homer and added one in the third when Parrish tripled in Comfort Ahonkhai.
Siedler got the first of her two hits in the fourth, ripping a single through the left side, but the Explorers could not capitalize. Skomorucha and Siedler then put together back-to-back singles in the sixth with two outs, but the Dragons forced a groundout to end the inning.
Drexel iced the game in the bottom of the sixth with four runs to end the game. Three of those came on Collings' second homer of the game and Reading scored an unearned run on a Bachmann sac fly to end the game.
Aughton took the loss in the circle, going four innings and giving up six runs (four earned) on 10 hits.
Alyssa Bitsimis came on in relief for the final 1.2 innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on four hits. Shelby Taylor earned the win for the Dragons, giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits.
The Explorers head to Princeton on Thursday for a two-game set starting at 3:30 p.m.
