PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle softball squad takes another break from Atlantic 10 play to travel across town to Drexel today and across the river to Princeton on Thursday. The contest at Drexel is a single game beginning at 3 p.m., and the Explorers will take on Princeton in a doubleheader beginning at 3:30 p.m.
Scouting La Salle (6-26)...
The Explorers went 3-3 last week, stringing together its first three-game win streak of the season by sweeping Monmouth and besting Bucknell in the first game of a doubleheader. They traveled to Charlotte on Friday, dropping a 1-0 heartbreaker in the first game before falling 6-1 in the nightcap.
Liz Reed has taken over the team lead in hitting, sporting a .254 batting average with a team-best four doubles and team-best two triples.
Alicia Aughton is just behind with a .253 average with three doubles and a team-best three home runs.
Breanna DiTommaso rounds out the top three with a .250 average, leading the team with 22 hits and nine runs scored.
Aughton had a terrific week in the circle, putting together a scant 0.85 ERA on the week. She pitched three complete game wins and drove in the winning run in the 1-0 win over Bucknell. She has a 3.08 ERA on the season and all six La Salle wins are credited to her. She has struck out 63 in 134.0 innings pitched.
Scouting Drexel (16-16)...
The Dragons are coming off of a 2-0 loss to Towson, which snapped a three-game win streak.
Jenn Reading leads the Drexel offense with a .330 batting average with a team-leading 30 hits and seven home runs. Comfort Ahonkhai sports a .311 average and Paige Collings rounds out the top three with a .290 to go along with a team-best 26 RBI.
The Dragons boast big run generators despite the majority of the lineup hitting below .300. Collings has batted in 26, Devon Metcalf has driven in 21 and Reading is up to 18 RBI.
Hillary Allen leads the Dragon pitching staff with a 3.56 ERA and 8-8 record. Shelby Taylor also sees significant time, with an 8-7 record and 3.97 ERA. Jessica O'Hara and Shyann Beach have also seen limited time.
Scouting Princeton (9-20)...
Princeton enters Thursday's games winners of three of its last four, including a split with Brown on Saturday. The Tigers took the first game 6-5 before dropping a 2-1 11-inning heartbreaker in the nightcap. The loss snapped the Tigers' first three-game win streak of the season.
Despite having a challenging season record-wise, the Tigers have some potent offense with three batters hitting .310 or better. Nicole Ontiveros leads the trio with a .327 with a team-best 32 hits, seven doubles and 22 runs scored. Alex Peyton is hitting .319 and leads the team with five round-trippers and 21 RBI. Alyssa Schmidt rounds out the top three with a .310 average while belting out four doubles, two triples and two home runs.
Peyton and Liza Kuhn split time in the circle as they have identical 4-8 records. Kuhn sports a 3.44 ERA and Peyton has a 3.90. Meredith Brown also sees time, with a 1-4 record in 11 appearances and a 4.67 ERA.

Following this week's games, the Explorers return to West Campus Field on Sunday (4/15) for an Atlantic 10 doubleheader against Saint Louis beginning at 12 p.m.
