PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle softball squad continues its Atlantic 10 season on Thursday as the Explorers head to the nation's capital to take on conference rival George Washington in a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. at the Mount Vernon Softball Field. The squad then returns home for two doubleheaders, first on Friday at 3 p.m. against Marist and again on Sunday at noon against St. Bonaventure.

Scouting the Explorers (6-31, 0-10 Atlantic 10)...

The Explorers lost two to Saint Louis in their last time out on Sunday. Back-to-back home runs in the first inning got the Explorers on top 2-1 before the Billikens edged the squad 4-2 in the first game.

Liz Reed, who currently has the top batting average on the team, blasted her first home run of the season on Sunday and Megan Hodgson followed up with her third. Shannon Skomorucha also went 3-for-5 on the day to lead the Explorer offense.

Reed is batting .244 and Breanna DiTommaso is second on the squad with a .242. Rookie pitcher Alicia Aughton rounds out the top three with a .232 and is tied with Hodgson for the team lead in home runs and RBI with three round-trippers and 10 RBI.

Aughton ranks in the top 10 in the conference in ERA, sporting a 3.19 to lead the Explorer pitching staff.

Scouting the Colonials (15-26, 5-7 Atlantic 10)...

The Colonials dropped two to Massachusetts on Sunday, falling 8-0 in five innings in the first game and 2-0 in the nightcap. The squad has some good A-10 wins, however, with a sweep of Temple and a 12-4 win over Saint Joseph's earlier this season. Two more wins came on a sweep of Rhode Island as well.

GW has two players batting over .300, with Victoria Valos leading the squad with a .328. Lauren Wilson sports a .305 average and Amanda Zakeri rounds out the top three with a .279. Valos has also driven in a team-best 23 runs, while Wilson is tied with Autumn Taylor with eight home runs.

Kara Clauss handles the majority of the pitching duties with a team-high 31 appearances and 25 starts. She leads the staff with a 3.03 ERA with a 10-16 record. Courtney Martin has appeared 21 times with a 4.71 ERA and 2-6 record. Chelsey Pedley has seen time in 18 games with a 4.10 ERA. Heidi Penna has appeared in six games, most recently against UMass, and sports a 3.06 ERA in that time.

Scouting the Red Foxes (20-19)...

Marist split with Rider on Sunday, taking a 2-0 11-inning marathon before falling 10-7 in the second game of the doubleheader. Friday will be a meeting of two former high school teammates as La Salle's Kati Cooper and Marist's Christina Lausch both graduated from Hempfield High School in Lancaster, Pa.

The Marist squad has potent offense, with five players hitting better than .300 and another just shy of the .300 mark. Ashley Corriss leads the team with a .330 and Danielle Koltz is batting .319 with a team-leading seven home runs and 30 RBI. Alyssa Zahka rounds out the top three with a .310.

Four Red Foxes split pitching duties evenly. Melanie White leads the staff with a 3.08 ERA (4-8) while Janine Lalli has put together an 8-1 record with a 3.30 ERA. Emily Osterhaus is 6-5 with a 4.90 ERA. All three hurlers have appeared in 15 games. Paige Lewis has also seen time in 12 games with a 2-5 record and 7.60 ERA.

Scouting the Bonnies (15-17, 4-6 Atlantic 10)...

The Bonnies most recently split a nonconference twinbill with Canisius, winning the first game 6-3 before falling 8-0 in six innings. They will pay a visit to Fordham on Friday and Saturday before coming to 20th and Olney on Sunday.

Brooke Frey leads the squad with a .349 batting average with a team-best seven doubles. Ashley Snider sports a .344 with a team-leading four home runs and 15 RBI. The duo is the majority of the Bonnies' offensive threat as the third highest average is a .257, held by Kelli Rohan.

Jen Sansano and Diana Phalon carry the pitching workload, while Julia Pratt has also made seven appearances. Sansano sports a 3.10 ERA and 10-7 record and Phalon has a 3.56 ERA and 5-9 record.
