WASHINGTON, D.C. -
Tristan Musho went 3-for-6 with a home run on Thursday afternoon to lead the La Salle softball team at George Washington. GW took game one 5-1 and won the nightcap 4-1.
Kati Cooper went 3-for-5 and
Alicia Aughton added a 3-for-7 outing.
Lauren Wilson led the Colonials (17-26, 7-7 Atlantic 10) with a 4-for-6 day with a triple, home run, three RBI and four runs scored. Tara Fogarty added three hits and a RBI.
GW went up 3-0 between the first two innings of game one. Autumn Taylor took a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch to score Wilson and Fogarty followed up with a RBI groundout to short. Wilson scored again in the second after drawing a walk and stealing second, and came in on Julie Orlandi's single through the right side.
The Colonials added their fourth and fifth runs in the fourth inning on a Wilson triple to score Kara Clauss, who hit a leadoff single. Orlandi followed up with a RBI single up the middle to bring in Wilson.
The Explorers (6-33, 0-12 Atlantic 10) had a good opportunity in the fourth inning as they loaded the bases with two outs but the Colonials forced a groundout to end the inning.
The Blue & Gold got on the scoreboard in the fifth on a
Shannon Skomorucha RBI single through the left side.
Megan Hodgson blasted a leadoff double and advanced to third on
Alicia Aughton's single through the left side to set up the scoring opportunity on Skomorucha's at-bat.
The Colonials held La Salle to one hit between the sixth and seventh innings as the 5-1 score held up.
Aughton pitched a complete game, giving up five runs on nine hits and striking out one. Clauss earned the win for GW, surrendering one run on eight hits and striking out six.
In the nightcap, GW once again got on top first with three runs in the third. Amanda Zakeri hit a leadoff single and the first two runs scored on Wilson's two-run home run. Orlandi doubled and came around on Taylor's single.
Musho got the Explorers on the board in the fifth with her solo blast to left field to lead off the inning.
Breanna DiTommaso also singled before the Colonials forced a groundout and flyout.
GW got one more in the bottom of the frame on a Victoria Valos solo shot to center and the 4-1 score held.
Alyssa Bitsimis got the start, throwing three innings and yielding three runs on seven hits.
Kristin Travers pitched the remaining three, giving up one run on five hits and striking out one. Heidi Penna picked up her second win of the season for GW, giving up one run on six hits and striking out nine.
The Explorers return to action on Saturday as they host St. Bonaventure for a doubleheader beginning at noon.
