NEWPORT NEWS, VA. – Jason Plumhoff has been named Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Year, the conference office announced today. Joining Plumhoff on the first-team all-conference list is senior goalkeeper John McCarthy.

"It's [the A-10] a league that has a number of teams that get national recognition and we were able to place two players on the first team," head coach Pat Farrell said. "We're looking to continue, we're looking to move forward and get results at the A-10 tournament."

Plumhoff has put together a spectacular senior season, tallying 29 points on 10 goals and nine assists. The Ellicott City, Md. native led the A-10 in goals and assists, one of only two players in the nation to do so in his respective conference. His 1.61 points/game mark is good for ninth in the nation while his goals and assists figures both file in the top-20.

"I attribute it [the recognition] all to my teammates," Plumhoff said. "I'm up there with a bunch of people in goals but the main reason I got the award is because I got the assists and all my teammates finished the balls I gave them.

"It's really special for me because, my freshman year coming in, I didn't have high hopes or expectations," Plumhoff added. "But a senior, Ryan Richter, who won the offensive player of the year always told me if I worked hard I could be there where he was. So, four years later I'm here in the same position he was in and I'm so grateful."

The River Hill product has registered 77 career points, fifth in La Salle history. He ranks second in program history in assists (25) and seventh in goals (26). Plumhoff's selection makes him only the second Explorer to be named A-10 Offensive Player of the Year, joining Richter (2010).

Plumhoff knocked home an A-10 high four game-winning goals for the Explorers this year. He has recorded a goal or assist in 12 of La Salle's 18 games.

McCarthy spent his senior putting the finishing touches on an equally sterling career, highlighted by a 5.76 saves/game mark that ranks first in the conference and ninth nationally. The Cinnaminson, N.J. native has been a four-year force in goal for the Explorers, shutting out his opponent 28 times – a program record. His 451 career saves are six shy of tying Paul Centofanti (1986-89) for second in La Salle history.

"I couldn't have done it without my teammates," McCarthy said. "I had higher expectations for my senior year, personally, but as an overall team I couldn't be more satisfied."

The only goalkeeper selected to the first-team all-conference squad, McCarthy posted an .847 save percentage in conference games. The Northeast Catholic product capped the regular season with a pair of shutouts last weekend vs. Fordham and George Washington, combining for 17 saves in the efforts. He totaled and A-10 high 98 saves on the year, the fourth year in a row he has led the league.

McCarthy and Plumhoff have aided four consecutive A-10 tournament appearances for the Explorers. They get their last crack at a league crown as La Salle takes on Dayton Thursday night at 8 PM in their first round matchup.
