BALTIMORE, Md. – The La Salle softball team won two in today's games against Morgan State and UMBC, scoring 20 run collectively between the two games. The Explorers trampled Morgan State 15-0 in the first of five games on the schedule for the Explorers in the UMBC Spring Classic this weekend.

Against Morgan State, the Explorers lumped the majority of their runs in just two innings – four runs in the first and a whopping ten in the fifth which ended the game after home team Morgan did not produce enough runs to continue play. Sophomore pitcher Alicia Aughton improved her record to 3-2 in this morning's win over Morgan State. She allowed just three hits, one walk, and notched three strikeouts en route to a complete-game performance. Aughton helped herself out by scoring twice and smacking an RBI double to left field in the fifth-inning barrage which scored junior Emily Moran.

Junior Megan Hodgson ripped a bases-clearing double in the fifth to pick up three RBIs while freshman Genevieve Gaynor added three RBIs in the fifth in two separate at-bats. Gaynor singled to left field to score freshman Ali Waddington and then doubled to left, knocking in Aughton and senior Liz Reed.

After a short recess, the Explorers took the field against UMBC. La Salle took an early 2-0 lead through the first two innings on RBIs from Hodgson and freshman Kendra Heyer. The Explorers scored again in the sixth on a single to left center by senior Tristan Musho.

Freshman Mary Cate Scott started in the circle for La Salle but it was Aughton who earned the win. After throwing five scoreless innings, Scott was replaced by Aughton in the bottom of the sixth where the Retrievers scored two runs. UMBC scored again in the bottom of the seventh to push the game into extra innings. The Explorers, not having the patience to continue, earned two runs in the top of the eighth on a clutch single by Musho that scored Aughton and Hodgson, giving La Salle a two run advantage. UMBC managed to score once in the bottom on the eighth but it wasn't enough to take down the Explorers who now improve to 7-3 on the young season.

The softball squad returns to the field tomorrow at 10:45 AM for a rematch against Sacred Heart and then Morgan State at 5:30 PM.
