ORLANDO, Fla. – The Explorer softball squad ended its spring break journey to the sunshine state in style, recording a pair of wins against Grambling and Detroit Mercy in an offensive barrage. Freshman
Mary Cate Scott threw a complete game en route to an 8-0 victory over Grambling State, recording seven strikeouts and just three hits. Scott is off to a fantastic start to her collegiate career as this win improves her record to 4-0.
Scott was supported by a strong offense that tallied eight runs on the game. Fellow freshman
Kendra Heyer notched two hits and scored twice while senior
Liz Reed bombed a two-run homerun to pull the Explorers well ahead of the Tigers.
Sophomore
Alicia Aughton threw five strong innings to earn her first win of the 2013 season against Detroit Mercy. Aughton was dominant with five strikeouts and just two hits in her campaign. She also cracked a three-run homerun which was one of three in the game for the Explorers

Freshman
Genevieve Gaynor picked up her first homerun as an Explorer with a solo shot in the second inning. Sophomore
Kristin Travers added another solo homerun in the 6
th inning. In addition, freshman
Casey Lester went a perfect 4 for 4 at the plate.
The Explorers now stand at 5-3 on the season and are off until March 15 when they head to the Baltimore, Md. area for the UMBC Spring Classic.
