INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The La Salle softball squad faced an offensive onslaught from the new Atlantic 10 rival Butler Bulldogs as the Explorers managed just four hits and surrendered 15 runs in five innings. Butler exploded from the start, scoring 10 runs in the first inning including a three-run homerun.
The Explorers tried to chip away at the early lead on a few base hits in the third. Junior
Megan Hodgson singled to center field, stole second, and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Hodgson was then driven in by senior
Liz Reed on a single to left but that's all the Explorers would score for the game, ultimately losing 15-1.
Also with singles were freshman
Kendra Heyer on a bunt in the first and freshman
Casey Lester in the fourth.
The bats settled down for both teams in the second game of the afternoon as the Explorers had just three hits and the Bulldogs found just five. The Explorers were shut out but Butler who scored only two which came in the first on a two-run homer over the left field wall. Junior
Emily Moran reached on an infield hit in the third while Freshman
Casey Lester singled to left in the sixth.
The Explorers fall to 13-20 on the season and 2-10 in the Atlantic 10. Next stop is Saint Louis for a doubleheader scheduled to start at 12 PM on Sunday. Live stats can be found on GoExplorers.com
