PHILADELPHIA – It was a classic Jekyll and Hyde display for the Explorers' softball squad on West Campus Field today as La Salle put on an offensive show in game one of the doubleheader against Bucknell before losing control of game two. The Explorers took down the Bison 8-0 before suffering a nearly equal fate in game two, losing 7-0.

Freshman Kendra Heyer cracked her first collegiate homerun over the right-center wall in the first inning of game one to give the Explorers an early lead. Heyer added an RBI double in the fourth to knock in junior Emily Moran. In addition, junior Megan Hodgson and freshmen Casey Lester and Paige Giunta each recorded doubles – Hodgson's came in the fourth where she knocked in Heyer and Lester to give La Salle a commanding 6-0 lead.

Heyer and Lester, both freshman, lead the Explorers in batting through the first half of the season with averages of .318 and .333, respectively.

Hodgson batted 2-3 in game one, recording three RBIs including a single down the left-field-line to score Lester.

Freshman Mary Cate Scott threw a complete game shut out, giving up just three hits, one walk, and striking out three. The win improves her record in the circle to 5-3.

After a decisive victory in game one of today's doubleheader, the Explorers could not get it going in game two as Bucknell's Amanda Fazio threw a complete game shut-out, holding La Salle to just two hits. Sophomore Kristin Travers ripped a double down the right field line in the fourth while Giunta notched her second double on the day in the seventh.

The Explorers' record briefly returned to .500 on the season but dipped just below following the second game as they now stand at 12-13 through the mid-point of the regular season. La Salle voyages to the University of Rhode Island this Friday for a weekend matchup against the Rams starting on Friday at 3:00 PM.
