PHILADEPHIA – The La Salle softball squad ended its seven game home stand with a decisive win over the George Washington Colonials after dropping the first game of the doubleheader. The Colonials took game one 7-4 but the Explorers rebounded to win the second game 6-4.

The Colonials were dominant in he first half of game one, amassing six runs through four innings while La Salle had yet to score a single run. Sophomore Alyssa Bitsimis got things started for the Explorers, notching a two-out single up the middle. Freshmen Casey Lester and Kendra Heyer smacked back to back singles to load the bases for junior Megan Hodgson. While she didn't rip another grand slam, Hodgson did earn a walk and RBI to score Bitsimis. A second straight walk, this time for senior Tristan Musho, knocked in another run to cut George Washington's lead down to four.

The Colonials responded with a run in the sixth to take a 7-2 lead. In the Explorers' last chance to come from behind, Lester, Heyer, and Hodgson drew walks to once again load the bases. Sophomore Alicia Aughton then picked up an RBI on a fourth consecutive walk. Sophomore Kristin Travers drove in Heyer on a sacrifice fly to right field but the rally would end there as the Colonials took game one, 7-4.

The Explorers were led by impressive offensive performances courtesy of Megan Hodgson and Kendra Heyer in their 6-4 win in game two. Hodgson demonstrated her power with a pair of two-run homeruns, both of which were deep over the left field wall, while Heyer batted a perfect 4 for 4, all of which were singles.

Hodgson leads the Explorers with nine homeruns while Heyer now leads the team with a .321 batting average. In addition, Heyer notched a pair of stolen bases as well, bringing her total up to seven on the season.

Tristan Musho kicked off the fifth with a single up the middle and was replaced by pinch runner Alli Waddington. After advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt by Aughton, Waddington scored on a single off the bat of junior Emily Moran. Moran went on to score in the midst of a run-down started by junior Jamie Dellinger.

The Colonials found some late momentum in the top of the seventh, loading the bases and forcing an RBI walk to cut the Explorers' lead to just two. George Washington senior Autumn Taylor hit a groundball to Hodgson who flipped it to Moran at second to end the game.

The Explorers return to action on Sunday, April 28 when they travel to Olean, N.Y. to take on the St. Bonaventure Bonnies in a doubleheader scheduled to begin at noon.
