MASON, Ohio - The La Salle men's tennis team closed the 2012-2013 campaign out with a loss to Charlotte in the Atlantic 10 Conference Championships opening round, 4-0.
The Explorers could not get any momentum, as they were unable to earn a win in the doubles round. Senior
Trevor Donovan and sophomore
De'Sean Fennell paired up at the number one doubles position. They dropped a tough match to the 49ers Jack Williams and Jordi Massalle Ferrer, 8-1.
"Donovan brought a lot to our team when he first came here as a freshman. He worked hard every day, even if we did not have a work out" head coach Ed Colfer said when asked about Donovan.
Juniors
Chas Berenato and
Joseph LaBate were in a very close in the second position, however, the match did not finish. Charlotte earned the doubles point with an 8-1 victory over
Thomas MacLeod and
Hunter Selman.
In singles play, Berenato dropped a close match in the third singles position. The junior lost the match with a score of 6-3, 6-0.
Donovan closed out his senior campaign with a match against Alex Calott. The match did not finish after two sets were scored, 7-5 and 2-3.
"Trevor was a great member of this team. He was a leader from day one" coach Colfer added.
After three singles matches were scored, the match was called, because the 49ers were the first team to score four points, earning the first round victory.
