NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - La Salle women's soccer senior
Kelsey Haycook has been named Atlantic 10 Player of the week, the conference office announced Monday.
The senior forward scored four goals during the opening weekend of Atlantic 10 play as the Explorers beat George Washington and VCU at McCarthy Stadium. The Explorers now sit alone atop the A-10 standings with a 2-0 mark in conference action.
In Friday's 3-0 win over GW, Haycook got things going quickly with a goal in the 4th minute, chipping the goalkeeper after assists from
Hunter Filippo and
Anna Dolhansky. The Point Pleasant, N.J. native added a score in the 50th minute, beating the keeper to the lower left corner on a cross from
Jessika Kagan to give the Explorers a 2-0 lead.
Haycook also struck early in Sunday's 3-1 win over VCU, finding pay dirt just 38 seconds into the action.
Maryam Huseini threaded a cross towards the box, which Haycook gathered and then beat the VCU keeper high to the near post for her ninth goal of the year.
The senior forward scored her 10th goal of the year in the 19th minute to put the Explorers in front 2-0. Haycook beat the keeper low inside the far post following a cross from freshman
Kristin Haugstad on the far side of the field.
The Point Pleasant Boro High School product leads the league in points per game (1.92), and is second in goals (10) and points (23). This week's accolade marks the ninth time Haycook has earned Weekly Award recognition from the A-10 during her time as an Explorer.
The Blue and Gold (6-4-2, 2-0) continue A-10 play on Saturday as they host the Fordham Rams (6-5-1, 0-1-1) at McCarthy Stadium on Saturday at 1 p.m.
