Dayton, Ohio –
La Salle softball earned a big doubleheader split against Dayton in their first road trip of conference play. The Explorers dropped Game 1 to the Flyers 4-1 and trailed 5-3 in Game 2; however, with their backs against the wall the Blue and Gold responded with three runs in the top of the seventh to notch the 6-5 comeback victory. The split pushes the Explorers record to 3-1 in A-10 play.

"It was a great comeback win for us," head coach Ron Shoemaker said. "The girls showed a great deal of composure."

Mary Cate Scott (W, 4-5) earned her third victory in as many appearances going 6.2 innings. She allowed eight hits and five runs, three earned, while striking out three. Alicia Aughton came in to secure the final out, earning her first save of the season.

The Explorers (10-9; 3-1 A-10) jumped out to the early 3-0 lead in the top of the third. Michelle Hagarty (2-4, R, SB) led off the inning reaching on an error. She swiped second, but Alyssa Sims popped up and Megan Hodgson grounded out. However, the Blue and Gold worked some two-out magic. Suzanne Swanicke (2-3, 2B, 3RBI, R) stroked an RBI single down the right field line to score Hagarty. Christina Bascara (1-4, HR, 2RBI, R) followed with a two-run bomb to centerfield, her second homer of the season.

Dayton answered with three runs of their own in the home half of the fourth. The Flyers first two batters reached base in the inning and were knocked in on a double by Alysha Isaacson. She would later come around to score on a miscue by the Explorer defense.

The Flyers would tack on two more runs in the fifth to grab their first lead of the game. Rachel Archer led off the inning with a single. One batter later, Jordan Jennings blasted a two-run shot to left field to take a 5-3 lead.

The score would remain unchanged heading into the final frame. Staring down the barrel of a doubleheader sweep, the young Explorers exhibited their strong resolve. Emily Moran (1-3) and Hagarty started the inning with singles. After Alyssa Bitsimis reached on a fielder's choice, Megan Hodgson walked to load the bases. Swanicke came through in the clutch once again, driving double to the right centerfield gap to score pinch runner Alli Waddington and Bitsimis. Aughton (2-4, RBI) broke the tie with a two-out single to knock home pinch runner Linnette Siedler with the game-winning run.

The La Salle bats struggled to get going in the first game of the day.

Aughton (L, 6-4) got the start, going the distance but suffering her first loss in her last six appearances. She allowed six hits and four runs, three earned, while fanning six in six innings of work. The six strikeouts was her highest total since she whiffed nine against UMass Lowell on March 7.

The Explorers could only muster three hits off of Flyer starter Kayla English (W, 8-6). She struck out eleven La Salle batters, going the distance in the victory.

Megan Hodgson (1-3, HR, RBI) struck for the Explorers only run in the 4-1 loss. She kick started the scoring with a solo-shot to left in the fourth. The home run was her team leading seventh of the season.

The Explorers will have a quick turnaround this week, squaring off for a doubleheader at Bucknell on Tuesday afternoon. First pitch is slated for 3:00 PM.
