Philadelphia – The La Salle men's tennis team couldn't work off of yesterday's momentum, as they dropped a tough match against Conference and Philadelphia rival, Saint Joseph's, 7-0.
The Hawks defeated the Explorers in doubles play to secure a point lead early on in the match. However, junior
De'Sean Fennell did not go down easily in the number one singles position. Fennell dropped the match in two sets, but went to a tiebreaker in the second set.
The junior paired up with classmate
Dale Fetterman. The pair muscled all they had but could not come away with a win in the number two doubles position.
"It was a tough conference match against a good team. We played better than what the scorebook said, the bounces just fell for them (Saint Joseph's)" said head coach
Tony Green.
The Explorers looked to
Mark Robinson, who had a superb last match, but the freshman struggled to build off of that momentum. Robinson dropped the match in the number six singles position in two sets, 6-1 and 6-3.
"We want to make sure we are rolling on all cylinders heading into the A-10 tournament, so Sunday's match is a great opportunity to prepare for postseason play" said junior
Thomas MacLeod.
La Salle will be back on the court on Sunday when they close out the season at George Mason. The Atlantic 10 Tournament will take place April 17 to April 20 in Charlottesville, Va.
