All-Time SeriesThe Explorers are 3-0 against the Retrievers in a series that dates back to 1977. The Explorers topped UMBC 65-62 in Tom Gola Arena last December.
Scouting the ExplorersThe La Salle women's basketball team sealed a come-from-behind 71-68 victory over Howard on Wednesday night by hitting 7-of-8 attempts from the free throw line over the final 1:45.
The Explorers were 19-for-24 (79.2%) from the charity stripe as a team against the Bison, and are third in the A-10 this season (71.6%).
Junior
Micahya Owens has scored 20-plus in each of her last two games, going for a season-high 23 points at Miami (Nov. 29) and a game-high 21 at Howard. The junior is 7th in the A-10 with 15.6 points per game.
Redshirt senior
Ebony Wells had a season-high 14 points on Wednesday, including the game-tying free throws with 1:45 left in the game.
Junior
Jasmine Alston, who had two steals and hit four free throws over the final 1:06 on Wednesday, also had a season-high five steals against the Bison. Alston is tied for third in the league in steals this season with 2.6 per game while an Explorer has now had five thefts in three of the last four games.
Alston is also third in the A-10 with 5.1 assists per game. The junior tied her career-high with nine dimes against Miami and has led the Explorers in assists in all but one game this year.
Scouting the Retrievers UMBC has won three of their last four and is coming off a tight 47-46 win against American on Wednesday. Senior guard Capree Garner and junior forward Pandora Wilson each contributed 12 points in the win.
Wilson leads UMBC in scoring 13.2 points per game and has scored in double figures five times this season. The Gaithersburg, Md. native also leads the Retrievers on the glass with 7.5 rebounds per game.
Junior guard Taylor McCarley ranks second in the American East with 4.2 assists per game and is averaging 11.0 points per game.
