PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – La Salle Softball will open their 2015 Atlantic 10 schedule as well as take the field at West Campus Softball Field for the first time this weekend as they welcome George Washington to Philadelphia. The Explorers will face the Colonials in a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 2 p.m. and the rubber game will be begin on Sunday at noon.

Text Alerts Scouting the ExplorersLa Salle was only able to get in one game last weekend at the UMBC Spring Classic due to weather and field conditions issues. The Explorers fell to Sacred Heart 7-4 on Sunday. Sacred Heart fell behind 6-0 in the third inning but trimmed the lead to 6-4 by the top of the fifth thanks to a two run homerun from
Alicia Aughton as well as a pair of runs in the fifth on bases loaded walks, however; the Explorers weren't able to complete the comeback against the Pioneers.
Sophomore
Christina Bascara continues to lead the way for the lineup, leading the team with five hits on the year and a .294 batting average. Bascara has appeared in all seven games making six starts. The Yardley, Pa. native has recorded two extra base hits on the year, a double and homerun, while recording three RBIs and scoring two runs of her own. She also leads the team with a slugging percentage of .526.
Fellow sophomores
Suzanne Swanicke and
Michelle Hagarty have aided in the offensive output. Swanicke is hitting .231 on the year with three RBIs and a double on the year. Hagarty has gotten hot after a slow start hitting .500 in the past three games with a double and homerun and three runs scored over that stretch.
Junior
Mary Cate Scott has been a constant in the circle for the Explorers. Scott ranks third in the nation with a 0.39 ERA on the season. She has allowed only one earned run in 18 innings while striking out 15 batters. Opponents are hitting .229 against Scott on the season.
Scouting the ColonialsGeorge Washington enters the weekend on an eight game win streak grabbing wins over Delaware State, Norfolk State, Lafayette, and Howard during that stretch. The Colonials have used a high powered offense, ranked 59
th in the country and 3
rd in the conference scoring 6.0 runs per game with efficient pitching allowing only 3.19 earned runs per contest which ranks fourth in the Atlantic 10.
Senior Samantha Dos Santos has been a constant offensively for the Colonials on the young season. She ranks third in the conference with an on base percentage of .559 and fourth in the A-10 in slugging percentage at .660. She is tied for the team lead with two homeruns on the year and seven extra base hits. Dos Santos also leads the team with 18 runs scored on the season while leading the league averaging .7 walks per contest.
Sophomore Megan Linn has also proved to be a threat offensively. Linn has started all 21 games for George Washington and ranks second in the Atlantic 10 with .65 stolen bases per contest. Linn is tied for second on the team with 17 runs scored on the year and leads the team with six doubles on the year.
In the circle the Colonials have used four pitchers on the young season. Freshman Sarah Costlow leads the way with a 10-6 record and 84.1 innings pitched on the year. Costlow has struck out 35 batters on the season and is allowing opponents to hit .261 off of her. Sophomore Paige Kovalsky is second on the team having thrown 40 innings and amassing a 3-0 record. She has notched 30 strikeouts and limited opponents to an average of just .227 on the year.
