Softball to Participate in the Stetson Classic


PHILADELPHIA- The La Salle softball team continues their spring break trip in Florida as they participate in the Stetson Classic beginning on Friday consisting of five games over three days. The Explorers open the classic on Friday with games against Kansas and Stetson.

Scouting the Jayhawks
  • Ranked 25th in the nation after a 17-1 start to the season with their sole loss coming to top ranked Florida, 7-1.
  • Rank second nationally with a team fielding percentage of .976.
  • Team is averaging 7.6 strikeouts against per seven innings which is good for 16th in the nation.
  • Have only allowed an ERA of 2.59 which is a top 50 team ERA in the country.
  • Kelsey Kessler is 36th in the country with seven shutouts this season while teammate Alicia Pille has six on the season. Kessler also ranks 22nd in the country with 250 strikeouts on the season in just 218 innings pitched.
  • Chaley Brickey ranks in the top 100 with 12 homeruns already on the season.
 
Scouting the Hatters
  • Swept a doubleheader against La Salle on Wednesday to move to 13-3 on the season. Enter the weekend on a 10 game win streak. Two of their three losses on the year came to No. 12 Minnesota.
  • Hold a team ERA of 2.12 which is 24th best in the country.
  • Average nearly a homerun a game at .87 on the year which ranks in the top 75 of the country.
  • Scores 5.19 runs per game which is 65th best in the country.
  • Meredith Owens ranks 8th in the nation with an ERA of 1.26. She also is 13th with 10 shutouts, 59th with 194 strikeouts on the year, and has a slugging percentage of .711 which is 58th in the nation.
  • Jezsie TenBroeck is 27th in the nation averaging .57 stolen bases per game.
 
Scouting the Mocs
  • Have a team ERA of 1.97 which is 16th best in the country.
  • Taylor Deason has an ERA of 1.49 which is 20th best in the nation while ranking 12th in the country with 4 saves on the year.
  • Katie Henderson ranks 42nd with 3 saves on the year and is 68th in the nation with 181 strikeouts. She also has completed five shutouts which is good for 80th in the nation.
  • Nicole Osterman leads the team with 18 RBIs and four homeruns already this season.
  • Sam Taylor leads the Mocs with eight doubles and 35 total bases on the year. She also holds a .440 batting average.
 
Scouting the Explorers
  • Freshman Taylor Rohrbaugh recorded her first career hit in the second game of the doubleheader, hitting a double to center field.
  • Senior Alicia Aughton broke up the Hatters no hitter in game one thanks to a seventh inning single.
  • Aughton leads the team with two hits on the season, recording on in each half of the doubleheader.
  • Junior Mary Cate Scott made two effective relief appearances throwing 7.1 innings without allowing an earned run. She also only allowed three hits while recording three strikeouts.
  • Freshman McKenzie Peace made her first career start in the second game of the double header. She threw three innings and recorded two strikeouts.
The tournament includes a one game playoff on Sunday with the time and opponent to be announced based on seeding. The Explorers return to action next weekend as they participate in the UMBC Spring Classic. They will take on Siena, Sacred Heart, and an out of conference matchup against Rhode Island while in Baltimore.
